Why haven’t I seen this poem before?! 😁 You did justice to Fingolfin’s epic battle with Morgoth, which was arguably the single most heroic act across the entire Tolkien universe.

I probably wasn’t reading it with the right cadence, so I’ll check out that video for some pointers. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed the poem.

I guess it is long overdue in showing this to you! After reading "The Silmarillion" I can understand why you chose Fingolfin for the name of your high elf!

Loved it. Listened to the whole video on the skaldic meter.

From what Dr. Crawford said it's one of the more difficult ones but I had a lot of fun doing it!

If you're interested I did a drottkvoett about John Henry on my substack; it's free so check it out if you want!

That sounds awesome! John Henry is one of my favorite American folk heroes so I'd love to give it a read!

That was gorgeous!! I knew you would be able to do Tolkien justice in skaldic form. I only hope that someday I can create something with that rhyme scheme. Bravo!

I've been debating about sharing fanfiction on my own substack so it's nice to see other people present both original and transformative works. Very fitting style for the subject matter, matches with the mythical feel of Tolkien's world.

Fan fiction and Substack initially don't seem to gel together but I suppose as long as the works are transformative enough and able to open up discussions then it'd be a good thing for the platform.

Thanks for reading!

I love it - there’s almost an iron-like sound to it, at least in my head, which seems so fitting.
